Rest In Peace: Dedicated Public Servant Julia Carson Passes Away

Images Out of respect for Congresswoman Julia Carson, who passed away earlier this morning, this thread, dedicated to her legacy of public service, will be the only one posted today.

Carson represented men and women who had no voice in government, and she had the courage to fight for her principles even when that meant standing apart from the crowd.

Please share your thoughts and memories.

40 fl oz and a blunt? What was this doing on here?

de mortuis nil nisi bonum

Of the dead (say) nothing but good.

Horace

so many posts of "I didn't agree with her positions, but she truly cared about her constituents". too bad that can't be said of ALL our elected officials!!!

LATIN:
Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine:

Grant them eternal rest, O Lord,

et lux perpetua luceat eis.

and may light eternal shine upon them.

Te decet hymnus Deus in Sion,

It is fitting that a hymn should be raised unto Thee in Sion

et tibi reddetur votum in Ierusalem:

and a vow paid to Thee in Jerusalem:

exaudi orationem meam,

give ear to my prayer, O Lord,

ad te omnis caro veniet.

unto Thee all flesh shall come at last.

"Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis. Te decet hymnus Deus, in Sion, et tibi reddetur votum in Ierusalem. Exaudi orationem meam; ad te omnis caro veniet. Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis"

Latin or greek? Seems to be a combination of both?

Just like the above commenters, I have disagreed with Ms. Carsons political views, very openly. Yet, she still was willing to help on both occassions that I requested it.
My daughter wanted a flag that had been flown over the US Capitol ON her birthday, FOR her 13th birthday. After several weeks of waiting for delivery, I called Ms. Carson and she located the flag. It seems that it was "forgotten" in D.C. and she made sure it was delivered "next day"! With the certificate stating the occassion.

The other, she was unsuccessful with, but so was Dan Burton,FEMA, Army Corp of Engineers, Sen, Bayh, and Sen Lugar.
(not gonna win all of them, and NO ONE will win that one) Special thanks to Wilson Allen for helping on that as well.
Julia did see past partisan politics when it came to her constituents. She was also very helpful to veterans and unions.

She will be missed.

Ms. Carson was indeed very responsive to her constituents. I'm one of them, and benefitted from her assistance. While trying to get back into the Navy Reserve to finish out 20 years of service, my quest was impeded by obstructionist recruiters who were more interested in going after 18 year olds as opposed to a Cold War, 34 year old re-tread who'd been out of the service for 5 years. After getting nowhere with the service, I wrote a letter to Ms. Carson asking for her assistance.

Within 2 weeks, not only did I get a phone call from a 2-star Admiral apologizing for the problems, I was sworn back in within a week..and the recruiters involved were transferred out of the station, perhaps to Arizona?

Regardless of what side of the aisle one is aligned with politically, the lady did right by her constituents, which probably had more to do with 6 consecutive election victories than any Democrat "machine".

RIP Ms. Carson. To all her family, friends, and associates, my sincere, heart-felt condolences.

TDW,
It has been a long while since I posted a comment here. This is an apropos occasion.

Mrs. Carson, with whom I disagreed as vigorously as can be imagined, was the only public servant who ever took the time to personally address one of my letters when I was a constituent of hers. Ever. She was also the only elected official from whom I ever received an informative legislative update. Ever. I had the occasion to meet her at her residence one morning while she was in town several years ago. She was gracious and warm. She expressed her admiration for the law enforcement personnel who served her community, and I sensed that this was not an affectation.

Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis. Te decet hymnus Deus, in Sion, et tibi reddetur votum in Ierusalem. Exaudi orationem meam; ad te omnis caro veniet. Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis.

We've lost a good human, a caring representative of the people and a woman who knew her place was in the "House".

Always ready with a hug, a smile and the courage to be true to her values was this amazing person.

To her family, we share your sorrow.

Brose Mcwho?

I'm a Republican former congressional staffer who now works in the Statehouse and my fondest memory of Julia was calling her congressional office and being surprised when she answered the telephone herself. She was down to earth and she was very kind to everyone who called-- including this conservative Republican.

I also honor her political skills. She was one of the most underestimated political figures in Indiana politics. As a result, the roadside of Indiana politics is littered with the wreckage of those who failed to seriously respect her talents.

I will miss her.

The Carson Family has my heartfelt sympathy! Julia will be missed by all. Losing a loved one this close to the holidays can make the season feel empty.
I'm sure the Carson family will celebrate the life of Julia Carson just as they will mourn the death.
Knowing that she is no longer suffering should bring a comfort to all who knew her.

12:12.. that was truely uncalled for. You have no class at all. I would ask the TDW removes your tasteless post. No wonder you posted anonymously!

I didn't agree with Julia, but I know that before her health problems that she worked hard at serving her constituents. Our shared mortality demands respect for her passing. Rest in peace, Congresswoman.

Tasteless, 12:12.

Rest in peace, Congresswoman Carson. Thank you for your service to the people of Indiana.

40 floz and a blunt for Julia. RIP

Judy O'Bannon hit the nail on the head today when she said Indiana will never be the same without Carson.

Let's look at the flags that are supposed to be flying at half-staff this week and remember her dedication to Indianapolis.

She will be missed.

I always loved the ways she stood up for the things that were right, the things that were important to PEOPLE first, and business and special interests could just go pack sand, unless what they desired dove-tailed with the interests of PEOPLE first.

And I will always admire how she stood up to that thuggish Brose McVay who tried to go all Cheney on her, and flat out kicked his ass !!

12:12, what a classless way to post.

RIP, Julia, gallant warrior.

Politics will have its time, soon...

And no, the Libertarians don't automatically get a special election spot, I don't think.

A classy lady whose act will be hard to follow. Go with God, Julia, and may the peace you so desired for us on earth be with us in this holiday season.

Peace be with you, Julia.

The ghouls and vampires are out already...

Can Ackles be next PLEASE????

No primary for the special election. There is a May primary to choose the Democratic and Republican nominees for the November election.

no primary, parties choose candidate through caucus.

RIP, Julia.

MsB: yes

May she rest in the peace she so richly deserves. Until her health first began to suffer 10 years ago, no one worked harder.

Beyond the love her constituents had for her, when no less than Dan Burton and Mike Pence had positive things to say about her in recent weeks, you know she did something right. Take the partisanship out of it, and she deserves respect for what she did with her life.

You left us too soon Julia, but boy did you get it done while you were here.

Technical question- does each on-the-ballot party (D, R, Lib) get to nominate w. a precint slating or something, then those are on the ballot for the to-be-called special election? There is no "primary", right?

My thoughts and prayers are with her loved-ones.
