WedgeWhack! Protest: B-Boz, Repubs Walk Out Over Immigration
With all the tax-related action and furor at the Statehouse, guess what issue B-Boz and his buddies walked out over yesterday?
House Republicans staged a Statehouse walkout Thursday night to protest an effort by Democrats to prevent changes to an illegal-immigration bill.
The GOP boycott began shortly after 8 p.m. when Republicans refused to return to the House chamber after meeting behind closed doors on the issue for more than two hours.
The feuding centered on Senate Bill 335, which would punish employers that knowingly hire illegal immigrants.
The House Public Policy Committee approved the bill Monday after amending the legislation, authored by Sen. Mike Delph, R-Carmel.
Some Republicans said Thursday they wanted to further amend and strengthen the bill by including provisions that would prohibit illegal immigrants from receiving state financial assistance for employment, college tuition and housing.

Not only do they have problems with the mandated E-Verify system in the State immigration bill, but also it's related BMV counterpart, SAVE system, which was used for its REAL ID initiative that is revoking over 50,000+ Indiana drivers licenses because of errors. No wonder the ACLU is taking the BMV to court.
In a report last year from the National Governors Association, the National Conference of State Legislatures and the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, the groups assessed the SAVE system, which is currently used by 21 states.[20] The groups found SAVE still has accuracy problems.“[I]nsufficient information is available for states to reliably identify and validate an individual’s ‘pending’ immigration status. States also report real-time verification is not attainable approximately one-quarter of the time, which necessitates a time-consuming process to meet this requirement,” according to the report.[21] Though the SAVE verifications should take up to 20 working days at the most, it has taken two months for some verifications.[22]
Though the Department of Homeland Security is mandating that States use SAVE to verify the immigration and citizenship status in the REAL ID system, the agency admits that SAVE may not be nationally deployed by the May 2008 deadline.[23] After 11 years of implementation, the SAVE program remains unreliable and inaccurate. The system should not be deployed nationally or its use made mandatory until its many problems are resolved.

Why is it that every time I see alliteration such as Compassionate Conservative I think of the deep intellectual pools of Karl Rove and other republicans who substitute words for thought?

Why is that when i think of deep intellectual pools I can't ever come up with a Republican who fits that description, particularly not its esteemed leader George W Bush.

Is my understanding correct that the Repubs walked out b/c they couldn't amend an immigration bill offered by a member of their own party? Did Delph not confer w/B-Boz and party leaders before proposing the bill? This sounds like typical Indiana GOP shenanigans...take an issue where a compromise is near and wreck it with controversial, partisan amendments. The apparent thought of the GOP: Let's not focus on the employers hiring desperate, immigrant workers, but instead punish the innocent children of those immigrants, many of whom are American citizens as defined by the Constitution, by denying them education opportunities. Family values? Ha!

As you pay your property tax bills, you can thank Brian Bosma & the GOP for trying to keep gay Mexicans from getting married in Elwood and Pittsboro!
